John's background is diverse. He has a degree in Marine Science and Biology, has worked "in the trades" and is currently involved in technology pursuits - specifically network security and computer forensics. Here is a brief timeline of John's performing career:

1980 - a friend, Vernon Burke taught John the basics of juggling while consuming beer at a party.

1980-1981 - performed locally in the Tampa Bay area with Ed Kosco and Michael Hanlon under the name, "The Jasper Juggling Company."

1982-1983 - performed as part of the "Juggling Gibertinis."

1983 - "Most Stupendous" award winner at the Atlanta Groundhog Day Jugglers Festival.

1984-1989 - performed at numerous Renaissance Festivals as "Giovanni Gibertini."

1985 - toured with "SAK Theatre", an improvisational theatre company based at Epcot Center.

1990 - was road manager and headliner for "We Can Make You Laugh", performing at 230 colleges in 40 states.

1991 - first performed as John Mallery and Family - Paula and Spike joined John at the Kansas City Renaissance Festival. First year performing as a knife thrower.

1992 - Thumbtack was born.

1994 - Staple was born.

2001 - received "Lifetime Achievement Award" at the Kansas City Renaissance Festival.
