Resources - Growers

Yes, the images on this page are of some of our orchids. I'm going to try to update these as plants come into bloom. To see some local, wild orchids go here.

Paphiopedilum Maudiae

We have been growing orchids for nearly two years and are totally committed to the hobby. We are growing a wide variety of orchids, but our main interest is in species, the more unusual the better.

We have found that growing orchids is a very rewarding hobby and has proven very educational for our children. Whenever we travel, we try to include side trips to "orchid related" venues. For us, the hobby is not just about the plants, it is about botany, history, sociology, etc. We have met some wonderful people through our hobby.

One of the highlights of our year is visiting the annual orchid show at the Missouri Botanical Garden . It is a truly spectacular event. It opens January 31 and runs through March 14. On February 7th and 8th there is a mini show and sale associated with the event. For more information go here.

Rhyncolaelia glauca

Resources

I have gathered some "water" related resources - sources for drip irrigation/misting systems etc. You can find it here (you will Adobe Acrobat Reader to view the file)

American Orchid Society - great resource, look for thier culture sheets

Internet Orchid Photo Encyclopedia - awesome site - lots of photos and historical information. Not sure of the identity of your orchid, this is a good place to search for its identity.

Another source for images is Eric Hunt's site

The Orchid Digest is a great print publication, great articles and images. A must for the serious grower.

Orchid Society of Greater Kansas City - our local society

Blc. Ports of Paradise 'Emerald Isle'
